Asymptotes

Asymptotes are a form of discontinuity found in functions. They are "lines" parallel to the x-axis or y-axis where the function approaches the value and gets infinitely close, but does not cross and reach that value.

Scenario: Sketch a graph of the function y = f(x) where f(x) has a vertical asymptote at x = 2 and horizontal asymptote at y = 5.

PRO TIP: The only rule in this scenario is that the function never crosses the asymptotes!
