Scenario: Evaluate the integral of the below function.

n = 2

Answer: F(x) = (x3 / 3) + C

When n = -1

Scenario: Evaluate the integral of the below function.

n = -1

The reverse power rule doesn't work with n = -1. The denominator becomes zero... resulting in an undefined integral.

When faced with n = -1, rewrite it as (1/x) and utilize the natural log equation ln(ⅠxⅠ) as the integral!

Pinpointed in integrals to memorize below..

Function / f(x)Integral / F(x)
1/xln(|x|) + C
sin(x)-cos(x) + C
cos(x)sin(x) + C
exex + C
