What is a population distribution?

A population distribution is a curve formed by all the population's data points that occupy the space beneath the curve.

Scenario: Consider the population distribution of IQ scores below.

In the case of IQ scores, they form what's called a normal distribution. Not all distributions will look like this!

However, this "bell-curve" shaped distribution is very common in statistics, and we'll be working with it a lot.
