Two events are disjoint if they cannot happen at the same time.

Scenario: Considering the following two events, determine if they're disjoint.

  • Event A: Roll a number greater than 4
  • Event B: Roll a number less than 2

P(A ∩ B) = 0

SA ∩ B = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}

Zero out of the six potential outcomes overlap in both Event A and B!

P(A ∩ B) = 0 / 6
P(A ∩ B) = 0

If there's no overlap of two events occurring in potential outcomes, then they're disjoint!
